1 SAMUEL 9:1-12:25

1Samuel 12:24 But be sure to fear the Lord and faithfully serve him. Think of all the wonderful things he has done for you. 25 But if you continue to sin, you and your king will be swept away.”

God heard the people's request for a king. Even though He knew that it would mean that they would look to their worldly king instead of Him, He gave them their request. Saul was a good man and the Spirit of God was with him. But God warns the Israelites and Saul that if (when) they fail to "fear the Lord and faithfully serve him" their king will be "swept away".

God will give us human leaders to turn to who can guide us, defend us and teach us but when we start turning to those people for our decisions before or in spite of God we are no longer fearing and faithfully serving God. However as we read on we will see that just because God says that He is removing someone from their position of power that does not always mean that it will be immediate. Right now I see the writing on the wall that there needs to be a change in leadership in an area of my life. I can see how God has put things and people in the right places in His timing, but I pray that all of us will be willing to patient wait on the Lord and trust Him to work all things out for His good purpose. He is the King of all kings and leaders and we need to keep Him in that place in our lives.
