August 24, 2026 - Do Not Be Double Minded

Psalms 86:11-12 NIV
[11] Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name. [12] I will praise you, Lord my God, with all my heart; I will glorify your name forever.
An undivided heart is difficult to have when we live in a divided world. So many things compete for our attention and approval. If we want to have an undivided heart we need to know the heart of God. The only way to do that is through His word, His Son Jesus Christ and His Spirit. We should fear God with a reverence and awe that keeps us focused on Him and gives us a desire to please Him. Praising Him helps to remind us of who He is and brings into a place that we will glorify His name and stand in awe of him.
Job 31:24-28 NIV
[24] “If I have put my trust in gold or said to pure gold, ‘You are my security,’ [25] if I have rejoiced over my great wealth, the fortune my hands had gained, [26] if I have regarded the sun in its radiance or the moon moving in splendor, [27] so that my heart was secretly enticed and my hand offered them a kiss of homage, [28] then these also would be sins to be judged, for I would have been unfaithful to God on high.
The reason Job was able to not sin by denying or blaming God was because he did know God for who He was. He feared God and glorified His name. He put his trust and security in God not things. He looked at creation and saw God's splendor in it not just beauty. He was not double minded or two faced when it came to trusting God.
We too need to put Jesus first in all ways. When we recognize who He is in all things we will be single minded and see all things through the eyes of reverence, awe and glory.
If we are double minded we will put our trust and security in things of the world. We will look at all God created and not even give thought or praise to God. We will walk in sin more and more.
“All my fountains are in You” means that God is the source of everything we need for life, strength, joy, renewal, and spiritual nourishment. Each fountain represents something He provides—our identity, wisdom, hope, and peace. These are found in Him because they begin and flow from Him, not from our circumstances, achievements, or other people.
Just as a fountain continually provides fresh water, God continually refreshes and sustains us. Our identity is rooted in who He says we are, our wisdom flows from His truth, our hope rests on His promises, and our peace comes from His presence. He is the wellspring of all we need, constantly renewing us and giving us life.
