AMOS 4:1-6:14

REVELATION 2:18-3:6

PSALM 130:1-8

PROVERBS 29:21-22

Revelation 3:1 “To the angel of the church in Sardis write:

These are the words of him who holds the seven spirits of God and the seven stars. I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead. Wake up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have found your deeds unfinished in the sight of my God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.

I see this church as many churches today. One who has some good things going on that makes them look alive. But they are really dead which is evident in the fact that they start things and don't finish them or they fail. The reason for failure is because they are not doing things with the right heart. A heart that is seeking the truth in the sight of God. If their hearts were right then they would seek God for what needs to be done. When you make plans in the church based on God's guidance those plans will succeed. The truth of what they have received and heard is not being held fast to. The truth of the gospel. A heart of honest reflection that brings them to repentance and a humble heart to build the church as Christ would have them build it is what is needed.

Revelation 3:4 Yet you have a few people in Sardis who have not soiled their clothes. They will walk with me, dressed in white, for they are worthy. The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels. Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

But also in this church and in churches today there are some who are living in truth. There are those who so walk in the truth and who Jesus finds worthy. They will be eternally blessed and will be acknowledged before the Father and need not fear the Bema.

Psalm 130:1 Out of the depths I cry to you, Lord;

    Lord, hear my voice.

Let your ears be attentive

    to my cry for mercy.

If you, Lord, kept a record of sins,

    Lord, who could stand?

But with you there is forgiveness,

    so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

Those in the first 3 verses above need to repent and hold fast to what they had been taught so that they too might walk in truth and those in the next 3 verses need to stay humble as to not become like the first. This is a great prayer to do that.
