ZECHARIAH 10:1-11:17
REVELATION 18:1-24
PSALM 146:1-10
PROVERBS 30:33
Psalm 146:3 Do not put your trust in princes,
in human beings, who cannot save.
4 When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;
on that very day their plans come to nothing.
5 Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord their God.
I am sure that I have written on these verses before but here we are again after a presidential election and before the inauguration. It seems that each presidential election the differing sides are getting more and more extreme. It seems to me that way too many people are putting their trust in the broken sinful human beings that are in authority than trusting in the only authority that we can trust in. Those who are for the winning side seem to think that their candidate is our saving grace and will fix all our problems and those for the losing side think that the world is going to end because their candidate did not win. After all their candidate is the only one that can save our country. Our God is all knowing, all powerful and in control of all things. No matter what the result of an election if we are trusting in God and the fact that He has put each person of authority into their position then we must accept who is there and whatever happens. It may be frightening at times but whether the winning side is the side we voted for or against if our trust is in the Lord then we can get through it. A human leader is still sinful and flawed. They will let us down and make bad decisions. But in the end, they will eventually be out of office and as this Psalm reminds us they will ultimately leave this world the same as we will. They are ultimately powerless. But for those whose hope is in the Lord it won't matter what happens. For me no matter what happens even if everything falls apart and everything that I think needs to happen doesn't, I can endure it. I trust that God has a reason and that is good enough for me.
