NUMBERS 8:1-9:14
LEVITICUS 1:1-3:17
Numbers 8:16 “Of all the people of Israel, the Levites are reserved for me. I have claimed them for myself in place of all the firstborn sons of the Israelites; I have taken the Levites as their substitutes. 17 For all the firstborn males among the people of Israel are mine, both of people and of animals. I set them apart for myself on the day I struck down all the firstborn sons of the Egyptians.
Reading through this year's plan, it caught my attention that God said that all the first-born males were to be dedicated to God in Exodus 13. And it surprised me that I had not read that before. I am sure that I had but for some reason it didn't stick. I had wondered how they could do that because it was not something that seemed to be done later on in the bible. Now I see why. God allowed the Levites to be a substitute for them. I love how every time I read the bible I am able to learn new things. I was just telling Dave something I head on the radio that I had never heard or thought about.
This has nothing to do with the reading but does have to do with there always being something to learn. "Jesus was the first youth pastor" and "Peter was the first adult leader".
Matthew 17:27 “But so that we may not cause offense, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.”
In Exodus 30 it says that the temple tax is to be paid by anyone 20 yrs old and over. The only 2 people that are paid by Jesus is for Him and Peter. That would mean that the other disciples were under the age of 20. I knew that they were all young and that Peter was the only one who was married but never put it together that they were under the age 20. As a youth leader that explains so much to me about why the disciples said and did some of the things they did. Also speaks to my heart for Peter even more.
