Reading today's reading I am reminded that God sets up rules for us to protect us and provide something better. Reading through all the requirements for what to do for skin diseases and molds we can see that those were for the purpose of protecting the people from illness. So, the rules are for the people not for God. Then when it got around to the rituals of cleaning and sacrificing, I realized that too is for the people not for God. Cleaning would help to protect them from illness but I bet it was also symbolic. Sacrificing an animal was not going to protect the people from illness but it did teach the people the importance of trusting God and following His commands. It was teaching the importance of the blood being cleansing preparing them for the sacrifice of the Messiah. I think it also focused their attention on God. I imagine when you are separated from your family for extended amounts of time because of uncleanness you can get caught up in some self-focused pity parties. So, when coming back it would be important to get your heart and mind right and focused on God.

There is nothing that we can do for God. All that He has done and commands us to do is for us to better know and serve Him better.
