Leviticus is all about rules and regulations. At bible study on Monday night someone had said something about God giving the Israelites all these laws and myself and someone else both said that the great number of rules were the leadership adding more regulations to the laws that God gave. Today reading I realize that we were right about rules being added but were wrong about the number of laws God gave. God did give more than the 10 commandments. In fact He gave over 600 regulations (see below link). But the Jewish leaders did add to God's law. These are the laws I was thinking about. They were referred to as the oral law or traditions of the elders. These were the laws that were created to protect people from getting too close to breaking the actual laws but ended up making life and worship more tedious and fearful.
I must make sure I set the record straight with my small group from Monday.
