GENESIS 37:1-38:30
1 CHRONICLES 2:3-6
1 CHRONICLES 2:8
GENESIS 39:1-23
Genesis 39:9 No one here has more authority than I do. He has held back nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How could I do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against God.”
Joseph gives us such a great example of what to do when we are tempted. After all, we all face temptations daily. Some as strong as the temptation of a young man being presented with the opportunity to sleep with a beautiful woman. But instead of dwelling on the "opportunity" he remembers the blessing he is living under. He also never forgets that ultimately every sin is against God and even if he could get away with his boss not knowing, God knows. We need to remember that God see and knows everything and there is nothing we can hide from Him. And even if we don't have concern for any person who might be affected by our sin we should care that our sin is against God.
Genesis 39:10 She kept putting pressure on Joseph day after day, but he refused to sleep with her, and he kept out of her way as much as possible.
He did everything he could to avoid the temptation. When we are tempted we should avoid the places, people and things that tempt us.
Genesis 39:12 She came and grabbed him by his cloak, demanding, “Come on, sleep with me!” Joseph tore himself away, but he left his cloak in her hand as he ran from the house.
When we can't avoid it and it tries to grab ahold of us we need to turn and run from it. Not try to negotiate with it or think that our willpower will be able to withstand it. But RUN from it.
Genesis 39:23 The warden had no more worries, because Joseph took care of everything. The Lord was with him and caused everything he did to succeed.
Even though he did everything he could to avoid the temptation he was put into jail. But God knew that he didn't sin against Him. God knew that he was faithful and did what was right and God had a plan. So even when we do what is right sometimes we get treated unfairly but instead of being angry we can trust that God has a plan and do whatever we can to do what we do to the best of our ability. Because not only when we sin do we sin against God and suffer those consequences, when we do what we do as though it is only for God He will honor that.
