GENESIS 4:1-5:32

1 CHRONICLES 1:1-4

GENESIS 6:1-22

Genesis 4:7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”

Sin is always tempting us even when we "do what is right". God is pleased when we do what is right but our right no matter how great can never make up for our sin. But if we are not willing to even try to do what is right and allow ourselves to freely give into temptation sin will have more and more power over us. The more we surrender to our temptations the more likely we are to sin because it will be ruling over us. The only way that we can really have any chance of ruling over a sin in our lives is to let Jesus rule in our lives. When we do that we are filled with the Holy Spirit who lives in us. Through the power of the Holy Spirit we can allow Him to change our hearts our minds and our will. We all have sins that we struggle with. Sins that want to rule over us that we just can't quite turn from and do the right thing consistently on our own. So, we need to daily and even sometimes hourly seek the power of God to overcome them. When we are tempted we need to turn to Him, and when we in our humanness fail to turn from it, we need to come before Him in humility and repentance. Cain was not humble or repentant because he was lost. But through Christ we are found. We are saved from our sin and it no longer rules over us. Through Christ is the only way that we can do what is right and only through Him are we accepted.
