JOB 12:1-14:22

ree

Job 12:1 Then Job spoke again:

“You people really know everything, don’t you?

    And when you die, wisdom will die with you!

Well, I know a few things myself—

    and you’re no better than I am.

    Who doesn’t know these things you’ve been saying?

Oh man that is a truth! Job gets honest with his friends "you're no better than I am." He knows everything that they have been saying. But he also knows himself and his love and obedience. He knows that only God knows and can accurately speak about him.

Job 12:13 “But true wisdom and power are found in God;

    counsel and understanding are his.

14 What he destroys cannot be rebuilt.

    When he puts someone in prison, there is no escape.

15 If he holds back the rain, the earth becomes a desert.

    If he releases the waters, they flood the earth.

16 Yes, strength and wisdom are his;

    deceivers and deceived are both in his power.

Again he continues to acknowledge God's power. Over and over again he reminds his friends and himself that God is in control and He has all the power. When we are suffering and people are telling us what they think about our situation we might get caught up in what they say. It's easy to forget to give God the glory He deserves when we are suffering as well. The more we state the truths about who God is it can help us to remember our place as well as God's.

Job 13:15 God might kill me, but I have no other hope.

    I am going to argue my case with him.

16 But this is what will save me—I am not godless.

    If I were, I could not stand before him.

I love that he speaks truth about who God is before he lays his complaint/plea/arguments before Him. What a great example to follow. Yes, we can be completely honest with God but first be honest with ourself about God.

Job didn’t get tossed about on the waves of affliction. If you an are someone who does or are easily swayed by the people around you, consider finding a book or joining a study that is about your identity in Christ. “Who Am I: Identity in Christ” by Jerry Bridges is a good book.
