Reading Acts today I had the thought that it is no wonder God chose Paul to be the one to take the gospel to the Gentiles. Being a Roman citizen, it gave him special privileges and protections. Also, being a Pharisee gave him knowledge and intellect to know how to influence the situations that he would find himself in. His intelligence and understanding of the different cultures and their belief systems equipped him to know how to present the gospel in ways that would be better received. His ability to speak different languages made for easier communication and evoked a level of trust with those he spoke to.
I am sure that while he was growing up and studying to be a Pharisee he never would have imagined that he would be where he ended up. But God knew and was preparing him for such a time as this.
We need to realize that in our lives whatever our plans are God will use it for His plan for our lives. No matter where we expect to see ourselves in the future God's plan for our future may be different than ours.
This reminds me of our scripture verse for this coming Sunday.
Jeremiah 29:11 'For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.'
We need to realize that even when we would like our path to be a straight line from point A to point B and exactly where we want to go, every detour has a purpose. When we experience detours, opposition, delays, and stops, God has already figured out how He will use each one of those things to prepare us for what His plan is for our lives.
We only need to trust and obey Him.
