Philippians 2:3-7 NIV
[3] Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, [4] not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. [5] In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: [6] Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; [7] rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
I laid in bed last night thinking and praying about the fact that I have been easily annoyed by people and things that don't normally bother me. Because of the recent work that He has been doing in my heart and mind about my responsibility in how I react to my feelings, I more quickly came to understand that I needed to look at what my sin is in these feelings. I know that when I am very busy and tired I have a much shorter tempter. That in itself is my irresponsibility in being balanced. The other thing that I caught myself doing was thinking about how things and people and events were affecting me or were my ideas or projects. I thought "I asked you for...". "That is not what I need...". "Why would you do that to me?" I was being far from humble. My thoughts and feelings were based fully on selfish ambition, vein conceit and self-interest. I want to have the same mindset of Christ. I need to value others above myself and put the interest of other ahead of my own. I think I do that when I am properly in balanced but in life I go through times where I get extra busy. The enemy knows when I am weak and if it weren't for the fact that God had already been talking to me about this I would have continued down a path of sin.
Philippians 2:14-15 NIV
[14] Do everything without grumbling or arguing, [15] so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky
I would have continued to grumble and argue. I would have reuminated on all the sinful thoughts that I was having about all the people, situations and responsibities in my life and it would have snowballed and caused more and more problems in my relationships.
Thank you, Jesus, for your word. Thank you for knowing that I was going to need to be reminded of these truths exactly when I was going to need it. Help me to put the needs of others ahead of my own. Purify my heart and mind that my life may shine like a star in the sky as I walk through this dark warped and crooked world.
