John 10:4-5 NIV

[4] When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. [5] But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”

This is why Mary Magdalen recognized Jesus when He said her name. It is not just the sound of His voice but the way He speaks. The way He says our name.

John 10:27-28 NIV

[27] My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. [28] I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.

If we are His sheep, we will not just hear His voice, but we will listen to it. We will do what He is telling us to do. We will follow Him because we trust Him and know that He wants only what is good and right and best and true. If we are His sheep no one can take us away from Him. Just as the shepherd will protect the sheep from predators and danger, Jesus will protect us as well.

John 10:29-30 NIV

[29] My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. [30] I and the Father are one.”

How can we trust in this truth? We have been chosen by the Father and placed in the care of the Son who will not only protect us but has sent His Sprit to live in us so that we are able to hear His voice.

I am currently singing a song that was part of our worship time on our youth group retreat this weekend. Give Him Praise. Praise to the Father who gave us the Son. Praise to the Spirit whose living in us.
