Jeremiah 31:31 “The days are coming,” declares the Lord,

    “when I will make a new covenant

with the people of Israel

    and with the people of Judah.

The New Covenant is Jesus! That is why everything is different now.

Jeremiah 31:32 It will not be like the covenant

    I made with their ancestors

when I took them by the hand

    to lead them out of Egypt,

because they broke my covenant,

    though I was a husband to them,”

Under the old covenant there were things that the Israelites had to do. They had to remain faithful to God and when they sinned they needed to make sacrifices. The covenant of the ancestors was broken over and over again because it could not be kept by broken sinful humans. God kept His covenant but the people broke it over and over again. But Jesus is the perfect unbroken sinless God Man. The unblemished lamb and perfect sacrifice. The new covenant is an unbreakable covenant, given to us by God the Father fulfilled and maintained by Christ the Son. Jesus has done for us what we are not able to do for ourselves.
