JOHN 19:28-37

Luke 23:44 It was now about noon, and darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon, 45 for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. 46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.

Isn't that what it feels like when a loved one dies. It is like a darkness comes over your life. Even when there should be light sunshine, instead there is darkness. But here we see that the darkness comes while Jesus is still alive. That means after Jesus dies the light returns. The curtain that separates us from God is torn in two and the light returns because Jesus willingly and freely gives Himself up for us. Before He did that we could only walk in darkness and sin. There is no light. No truth. No relationship with God. Now we have the ability to walk in Christ and be seen washed clean of our sin. We can walk in the light. Know and live in the truth. And have an intimate relationship with God.

Do not let the evil and temptations of this world bring darkness over what should be a life walked in the bright light of Jesus.

The mention of Simon of Cyrene (in Mark 15:21, also in Matthew 27:32, Luke 23:26) is significant for several reasons:

1. It shows the humanity of Jesus.

By this point, Jesus was physically exhausted from being beaten and scourged. The fact that someone else had to carry His cross emphasizes the real…

When I read about Simon of Cyrene I was thinking that we need to recognize that sometimes we need someone to carry our cross for us. The only compulsion we are under as believers to carry someone else's cross is Jesus.
