Mark 1:9-11 NIV

[9] At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. [10] Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. [11] And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

We may not read the word trinity in the bible, here is one place where we can see the trinity in the bible. Jesus the Son is being baptized, the sky being torn open sounds like it is something they have not seen before. Whether it is clouds part in an unnatural way or the something unexplainable happens in the blue sky, it is different. Out of that opening the Spirit of God comes in the physical form of a dove and the voice of the Father speaks. All 3 aspects of God present in one place.

Exodus 29:15-18 NIV

[15] “Take one of the rams, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head. [16] Slaughter it and take the blood and splash it against the sides of the altar. [17] Cut the ram into pieces and wash the internal organs and the legs, putting them with the head and the other pieces. [18] Then burn the entire ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to the Lord, a pleasing aroma, a food offering presented to the Lord.

Yesterday I had commented on how the sacrificial system of the Old Testament was to teach the Israelites about the need for a sacrificial savior. There needs to be blood shed to forgive sins. These verses also remind me of the children's message from church yesterday. It is on kindness and I use a story, a rope and some scissors to demonstrate how being unkind can ruin our relationships. Being selfish, mean and unkind is sin and sin ruins our relationship with people and with God. When I read about this offering and how the pieces of the animal were separated and washed before being burned as a food offering, I thought about how unkindness separates us from each other and from God. And just as tying a rope back together may partially restore it washing the parts only make it partially clean. Just like in the sin offering it was not a permanent fix. They had to do it over and over again. But Jesus who was without sin and is kind, compassionate, forgiving and loving, was the ultimate offering. When His blood was shed, He forgave our sin once and for all. It was not partial it was complete. When we trust in Him and give our lives to Him, we are restored and when we forgive like He forgives we can have our relationships restored.

Exodus 30:10 NIV

[10] Once a year Aaron shall make atonement on its horns. This annual atonement must be made with the blood of the atoning sin offering for the generations to come. It is most holy to the Lord.”

This once-a-year offering was a purification offering had to be made by the high priest. It was an "atoning [purifying] sin offering for the generations to come." It was also imperfect and had to be done every year. But Jesus the ultimate High Priest was also the sacrifice whose blood was shed for the sins of all. Those of the time, those who were considered righteous before His sacrifice and for the generations to come. Through Jesus or restoration is complete and is available from the beginning of time to the end of time.

If you want to see the children's message I will like the service below. It is in the beginning of the service.
