Matthew 28:12-15 NIV

[12] When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, [13] telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ [14] If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” [15] So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.

As I was reading this I was wondering how Matthew would know that this is what happened? It had to be a soldier, a priest or elder. Why would they tell him this? That said to me that at least one person, I was thinking soldier, came to believe. After that experience with God there had to be some who started to ask questions and looking for answers. Which I think is still very likely even after reading v15. When the soldiers left, they had to have had their minds blown by what happened at the tomb. That would be hard to not talk about. But then they should have been killed because they failed at their job. But the chief priests and elders paid them off and protected them with the Roman government. That was a sure indicator that something big had just happened. I am sure that God used all this for the kingdom. First to convict some of these people to turn to Jesus, but they had to be talking about it. Which would make the people they talked to curious and want to know the truth. So God was able to use this attempt at a cover up to show even more people what was done through Jesus.

Exodus 28:2 NIV

[2] Make sacred garments for your brother Aaron to give him dignity and honor.

On reading about the priestly garment for Aaron. I was thinking about how elaborate and costly and flashy they were. Why? God said it was to give him dignity and honor. Now, after Jesus, we know that the sacrificial system was to show us the need for a savior and that the high priest is an imperfect representation of Jesus. Could it be that the dignity and honor given to Aaron was to prepare us to understand the dignity and honor that Jesus deserves. All these earthly things were an imperfect picture of what was to come in the perfection of Jesus.

Just my thoughts for the day.
