Matthew 9:28-29 NIV

[28] When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied. [29] Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you”;

"According to your faith let it be done to you". Jesus' words tell us that out faith matters. I love that it says that these men who were asking for a miracle had faith the Jesus was able to do it. Not that they had faith that Jesus would do it. That is how we need to come to Him in prayer. When we ask, we need to have faith that He can do what we are asking for. That doesn't ensure that He will do it, but it shows that we know who He is. It is us putting Him at the proper place in our lives. The first time I was given the gift of healing was the first time I realized this truth. It was like a light bult went off and I felt a change in how I prayed. I praised God and told Him how I knew without a doubt that He could heal and that if it was His will He would. I thanked Him in advance for the answer and truly accepted His will before I knew the answer. There have been other times that I have prayed for things with the same faith that the answer was no. That's okay with me because it is more about who I believe He is. When the answer is no if you have faith that He can I think that the answer is still according to our faith. Faith results in response from us. The blind men had faith so they came to Him and asked. Our actions should reflect our faith as well. Our Old Testament reading today demonstrates faith resulting in action.

Genesis 24:39-46 NIV

[39] “Then I asked my master, ‘What if the woman will not come back with me?’ [40] “He replied, ‘The Lord, before whom I have walked faithfully, will send his angel with you and make your journey a success, so that you can get a wife for my son from my own clan and from my father’s family. [41] You will be released from my oath if, when you go to my clan, they refuse to give her to you—then you will be released from my oath.’ [42] “When I came to the spring today, I said, ‘Lord, God of my master Abraham, if you will, please grant success to the journey on which I have come. [43] See, I am standing beside this spring. If a young woman comes out to draw water and I say to her, “Please let me drink a little water from your jar,” [44] and if she says to me, “Drink, and I’ll draw water for your camels too,” let her be the one the Lord has chosen for my master’s son.’ [45] “Before I finished praying in my heart, Rebekah came out, with her jar on her shoulder. She went down to the spring and drew water, and I said to her, ‘Please give me a drink.’ [46] “She quickly lowered her jar from her shoulder and said, ‘Drink, and I’ll water your camels too.’ So I drank, and she watered the camels also.

Abraham had faith in God which had grown from a lifetime of walking with Him. He believed without a doubt that God would be with his servant as he went to find a wife for his son. Abraham's servant had faith in God. When he asked very specifically so that there would be no doubt who he was to go to. He had faith that God could respond exactly as he had asked. I believe that both Abraham and his servant were led by God in their prayer. God knew their faith was great and that they would trust Him to do what was best. I can't explain to you why or how but that first time I prayed for healing it was a different kind of prayer for me. I don't think it is something that I would have thought to pray before then, but I did believe every word of it in my heart. I think that it was Spirit led because not only could He do it, but He was willing to. By leading me to pray the prayer He revealed Himself to me as healer and Lord. He could have just healed my pain, and I would have woken up and thought wow this is great I feel better. I would have probably thanked God for it but it would not have been the same. God led Abraham to say that God would send His angel with him and give him success because that is what he was going to do. This strengthened the servant's faith. And according to his faith God guided him to pray the specific prayer that he prayed.

Genesis 24:56-58 NIV

[56] But he said to them, “Do not detain me, now that the Lord has granted success to my journey. Send me on my way so I may go to my master.” [57] Then they said, “Let’s call the young woman and ask her about it.” [58] So they called Rebekah and asked her, “Will you go with this man?” “I will go,” she said.

When he gave his testimony of what God had done Rebekah and her family could not help but recognize God's hand in this because they were people of faith as well. Their response was not your crazy that wasn't God that was a coincidence. We aren't giving Rebekah to you. Instead, they agreed to send Her to be Issac's wife. Rebekah's family tried to buy her some more time with them, but the servant was in a hurry to get back home and complete what he was called to do. Rebekah's faith was so strong that when they asked her about it, she did not hesitate she agreed to go. Because of her faith she was able to recognize the hand of God in the circumstance. She knew that God had picked a husband for her and she trusted Him. There was no reason to hesitate. According to their faith God fulfilled His plan and His purpose and He continues to do the same today. The deeper our faith and understanding of who God is the more likely we are to pray in the Spirit according to His will, and to receive an answer that is in accordance with our faith.
