July 21, 2026 - Diversion Causes Division

1 Corinthians 11:17-19 NIV
[17] In the following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good. [18] In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it. [19] No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you have God’s approval.
I have made the comment that if church leadership is all following Christ and seeking His will, there will be unity in decision making. A pastor friend of mine said that is true only if everyone is truly seeking God. In the Corinthian church there were those who were seeking to please God and those who were seeking to please the flesh. This causes division in the church. Differences and disagreements in church should drive us to recognize that we need to seek God's approval, not mans. We need to evaluate our own decisions as well as those of others. If our decisions are to please self or someone else without regard to whether nor not it pleasing to God, we need to repent. If there is agreement among those who can demonstrate how they have been seeking God and how He has confirmed things they should lovingly stand up for what they know to be God's will. Division in the church = diversion from God.
