ISAIAH 63:15-66:24

2 KINGS 20:20-21

2 CHRONICLES 32:32-33

Isaiah 66:2 Has not my hand made all these things,

and so they came into being?”

declares the Lord.

“These are the ones I look on with favor:

those who are humble and contrite in spirit,

and who tremble at my word.

He has created us all. And He has given us all free will. That means that we decide how we respond to Him. If we want the Lord to look on us with favor, we need to decide to respond with a humble and contrite spirit. If we come to the Lord truly humbled before Him, we can seek His truth. His word. And the truth and power of His word should bring us to a place of trembling before Him.

Isaiah 66:5 Hear the word of the Lord,

you who tremble at his word:

“Your own people who hate you,

and exclude you because of my name, have said,

‘Let the Lord be glorified,

that we may see your joy!’

Yet they will be put to shame.

When we are responding from a humble and contrite heart trembling at the word of the Lord, we will be compelled to live by it and speak truth. In this evil and broken world that truth is likely to bring on the criticism and hate of the world. We should not be surprised if we are ridiculed and are excluded from the approval of the culture and those we live among. But for me, to be hated so that the Lord will be glorified is worth any condemnation, hate or ridicule this world can throw at me. There is nothing on this earth that anyone can say or do against me that can compare with the amount, depth and completeness of the joy that I will experience as one who walks with the Lord with a humble and contrite spirit.
