JEREMIAH 5:20-6:30

2 KINGS 22:3-20

2 CHRONICLES 34:8-28

2Kings 22:17 Because they have forsaken me and burned incense to other gods and aroused my anger by all the idols their hands have made, my anger will burn against this place and will not be quenched.’ 18 Tell the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says concerning the words you heard:

19 Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I have spoken against this place and its people—that they would become a curse and be laid waste—and because you tore your robes and wept in my presence, I also have heard you, declares the Lord. 20 Therefore I will gather you to your ancestors, and you will be buried in peace. Your eyes will not see all the disaster I am going to bring on this place.’”

All I can think about is how parental the Father is. A Father with disobedient children. When we as parents lay down the rules and our children break them as a good parent there should be consequences. I know that I had always told my children that if they do something wrong and they lie about it then it will be worse than if they tell the truth. A step further is if they confess it on their own and are truly sorry there is compassion to be had. Earthly consequences for earthly rules broken but as an earthly parent not always done correctly.

Thankfully our Heavenly Father is the perfect Father and knows exactly what needs to happen.

The Israelites broke heavenly rules so there were heavenly consequences. Consequences that their Father had made them very aware of. The king was ultimately responsible for leading them but they were responsible for choosing to follow his lead or not. The king did repent and humble himself which resulted in compassion from the Father. Instead of him living through the suffering of the consequences to its fullest God gave him peace.

We have the choice to follow the lead of the world or the lead of our heavenly Father. Our Heavenly Father who in His compassion took on the consequences of our sin Himself through His Son Jesus Christ. We still will suffer consequences for our sin but it no longer results in death and eternal suffering that we would otherwise deserve. Thank you daddy!
