Romans 6:17-18 NIV
[17] But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you have come to obey from your heart the pattern of teaching that has now claimed your allegiance. [18] You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.
Obedience from your heart. If we try to stop sinning by our own will without Christ in our lives, we will fail. But with Christ is in us from a heart that is surrendered to Him we are set free from sin. We will still be tempted, and we will still have times that we sin, but we are free from the consequence of sin and it should result in a heart that desires freedom from sin as well. We will not be living by the teaching of Jesus because of the law but because our hearts are changed. We obey out of love and dedication to Jesus. Thanks be to God!
