June 26, 2026 - Fearlessness, Sunshine and Prayer

Psalms 27:1 NIV
[1] The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?
Remembering this truth can bring so much freedom from fear. As I shared yesterday understanding the sovereignty of God is difficult but can alter your perspective on everything you experience in life. The good and the difficult.
His power and election in the process of your salvation should reassure you that He is for you. As it says in Romans
Romans 8:28-31
28And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. 29For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
31What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Psalms 27:8 NIV
[8] My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, Lord, I will seek.
On a sunny day when I walk outside I feel like a flower because I will naturally turn my face up toward the sunshine and whenever possible I will just stand there and soak it in. On those days if I am kept inside, I feel like I am missing out on the warmth, joy, and tan that the sunshine gives me. I imagine that my heart wants to seek the face of God in that way. Looking for every opportunity to stand in His presence and soak up His glory. To receive the warmth and nourishment that He offers and just as the sun can change the temperature of our body and the color of our skin the Lord can change the condition of our hearts.
1 Chronicles 12:22 NIV
[22] Day after day men came to help David, until he had a great army, like the army of God.
Help may not come all at once but trust in the Lord that it can come little by little day after day. It may not be what we ask for or what we expect but it will come. I caught the end of the Focus on the Family broadcast today and the speaker talked about Abraham negotiating with God to save Sodom & Gomorrah. He wanted to save his nephew Lot and his family. He negotiated down to 10 righteous people. He could have reasoned that would be (1) Lot, (2) his wife, (3&4) their 2 daughters, (5&6) their fiancés, and (7,8,9&10) the husbands' parents. He would have expected that Lot's daughters would only be involved with a Godly family. He probably went to bed thinking I just spared Sodom and Gomorrah from judgement people because I convinced God to spare them if there are only 10 Godly people and there must be at least 10. Then he wakes up the next morning and sees smoke rising. He didn't know that Lot and his daughters were still alive. The speaker said something like God will give us to the desire of our heart but not necessarily the way we would be expecting it to happen.
I went back and listened to the whole thing. It was about trusting God when he doesn't answer your prayer the way you want. It is so full of great quotes and teaching. Ideas like our salvation was founded on unanswered prayer. Because the father said no to the son you have to drink the cup we can be saved.
