I am coming into this reading thinking about the next section of intentional prayer. Yesterday was all about praise for me. That is the way we should always start our prayer time. Next is what should come naturally when we are praising Him. Thanksgiving and praise walk hand in hand.
Psalms 30:11-12 NIV
[11] You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy, [12] that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent. Lord my God, I will praise you forever.
David praises God, and in that time of praise he talks to God about things that God has done for him and in his life. When we think of all that God has done for us, we should be filled with thanksgiving. Thank him for the difficult things that we have been through and all the ways he brought you through it. Thank him for the times that you mourned and experienced sadness and grief and the times that He also brought that sadness around to joy. Thank Him for the joys in your life and the promises of a future that He had given us. Remember that He has a plan for us. Plans to give you hope and a future. (Jer 29:11)
1 Chronicles 17:25-27 NIV
[25] “You, my God, have revealed to your servant that you will build a house for him. So your servant has found courage to pray to you. [26] You, Lord, are God! You have promised these good things to your servant. [27] Now you have been pleased to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever in your sight; for you, Lord, have blessed it, and it will be blessed forever.”
Acknowledge and give thanks for the things that He has revealed to you. Thank Him not just for what He has done but what He will do. For all the prayers that you have not prayed but that He in His sovereignty has already decided how He will answer them.
Today I spoke to someone in church who was feeling a burden of sadness for our church. She thinks it is a desire to see our church with a youth pastor who can respond and lead us in all the different areas of youth ministry that our church is involved in. I have the same heart for our church as well. But we both agree that even if God is the one putting it on our hearts that does not mean that it is something that will or should happen right now. We must be patient and trust that God has it already worked out.
Just as David had a heart to build a temple for the Lord it was not in his place and time to see it done. God had already worked it out as to who, when and how it would happen. So we can give God thanks for all things. Things He has done. Things He is doing. And things that He will do. After all, in the heavenly realm the things that He will do here on earth have already been done. Remember God has no limits in time and space. He is in all places at all times so what we wait for He has already accomplished.
I don't know about you but that blows my mind and is worthy all my praise and thanksgiving.
