Psalms 61:5-8 NIV

[5] For you, God, have heard my vows; you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name. [6] Increase the days of the king’s life, his years for many generations. [7] May he be enthroned in God’s presence forever; appoint your love and faithfulness to protect him. [8] Then I will ever sing in praise of your name and fulfill my vows day after day.

This has me thinking about how easy it is to praise God when things are going well. When we are blessed with good things because of our faith. It is easy to ask Him to protect us and keep us well and give us a long life. And that is all good. We need to praise Him and thank Him and trust Him to care for us. Asking Him is a way of showing Him we trust that He can. But that is not the only time that I should "sing in praise of [His] name and fulfill my vows day after day". Even when things are difficult. Even when things don't go the way we want them to and even prayed for them to. Even when our faith leads to difficulty and struggles. We should say that even "then I will ever sing in praise of your name and fulfill my vows day after day."
