Psalms 84:2 NIV

[2] My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God.

Psalms 84:10 NIV

[10] Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

As a believer in Jesus filled with love for our great God we should crave to be in the Lord's house. Our time in His presence worshiping Him in His house should be done for Him. For our relationship with Him. If we are avoiding His house because of people, our feeling or our opinions then we are not there for the right reasons.

Deuteronomy 14:23-26 NIV

[23] Eat the tithe of your grain, new wine and olive oil, and the firstborn of your herds and flocks in the presence of the Lord your God at the place he will choose as a dwelling for his Name, so that you may learn to revere the Lord your God always. [24] But if that place is too distant and you have been blessed by the Lord your God and cannot carry your tithe (because the place where the Lord will choose to put his Name is so far away), [25] then exchange your tithe for silver, and take the silver with you and go to the place the Lord your God will choose. [26] Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the Lord your God and rejoice.

Eat the tithe in the presence of the Lord in the place that He chooses. Even if you can't take all your stuff because it is too far, sell your stuff and buy new stuff when you get there. But no matter what, Get there. To the place He chooses and eat and rejoice there.

We are so blessed to have the Christian version of the dwelling place of the Lord in the church because there are so many of them. But God calls us to the particular church we are in. As a believer we will know when we are where God has chosen to bring us to. We usually know in our hearts and soul that this is the place. When we are brought to that place, we should bring our stuff there. Offer a tithe of all that we have and enjoy it there in His presence. We are called to worship in His house because it is full of broken sinful humans and that means that we can get distracted by hurts and opinions of our own and of others. We can find ourselves feeling discouraged and unhappy where we once felt welcomed and loved. However, we are to be where He chooses for us until He tells us otherwise. It was not easy for the Israelites to pack up their tithe and travel to the temple to eat and rejoice in the presence of the Lord. No wonder there needed to be a command to do it. Otherwise, it would be so easy to make excuses to not go. Actually, that's probably one of the reasons that they fell away over time because they ignored His command to go there. Isn't that what happens to us. I have seen over and over again people who stop coming to church for one reason or another. It can be as simple as life gets busy and they miss a few weeks and that turns into years. Or as complex as a disagreement with another church member or church leadership. It can be because of their feelings or opinions. I don't like hearing someone say that they aren't getting anything out of the service or the preaching, so they are going to look for another church. Usually someone makes excuses and stops attending a church they don't go looking for another one. Or they find another one and the same thing happens over time. Why because of a lack of bringing all they have to His dwelling place. A lack of connection to worship is a lack of worship on our part not a lack of anything going on in the church. We are to be giving in church not looking to get. We should not just come to church on Sunday morning and run out the door right after not setting foot in there again till the next Sunday. The Israelites brought a tithe of ALL their stuff and we complain about giving a tithe of our money. They also gave a lot of their time to worship and service to the Lord on top of the tithe. We should do the same. If we aren't getting anything out of a sermon we need to dig into the word of God ourselves. Study. Ask questions. Meditate on it. If we aren't getting anything out of the music or any other area of worship, we should be looking for ways that we can enhance or contribute to the worship service. The right things to do when we feel that something is missing from our church is to add something to it. If you question how things operate look for way to get involved in the workings of the church.

When a relationship with a person being, a spouse, child or friend is feeling distant the answer is not to stay away from them but to spend more time with them.

Our soul should yearn to be in His courts. We should look for more and more reasons and ways to spend time in His house because better is one day there than a thousand elsewhere.
