Psalms 62:1-2 NIV
[1] Truly my soul finds rest in God;
my salvation comes from him.
[2] Truly he is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.
This Psalm talks a lot about God being our rock, our salvation, our fortress, our refuge etc.
Last night Camp Ligonier staff came out to our youth group meeting and brought some fun and a message to share with us. They shared Matthew 7:24-27
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.25The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.26But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand.27The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
He talked about how the word of God is reliable and never changing and when our life that is always changing and often unstable, is being influenced by all the things of the world, building our life on the solid foundation of His word can help us to stand strong.
I thought of that as I read "Truly my soul finds rest in God". That is how I can find rest.
When we build our life on the solid rock we know that we can always stand on the truth of God. God never changes, His word never changes and no matter how much the world changes around us or how much the world tries to challenge us we can always turn to Him and His word and not stumble or fall. Even in the middle of the worst storm we can find rest in Him. Imagine being able to sleep through a storm as Jesus was sleeping in the boat during the storm. Imagine laying on a rock and it is the most comfortable and restful place you have ever been.
