PSALM 39-41

PSALM 53

PSALM 55

PSALM 58

Psalm 39:6 “Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom;

    in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth

    without knowing whose it will finally be.

I love the imagery of our chasing after money and things as being a phantom. When we don't find our contentment in Christ we will always be looking for more things to make us happy but will never be able to grasp it. We are sometime so busy rushing around chasing after that phantom that we miss out on a deeper relationship with Jesus and the body of Christ. The last line about "without knowing whose it will finally be" reminds me of the parable of Jesus in Luke 12. People who chase the phantom often do it at the expense of relationships with people.

Luke 12:16 And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17 He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’

18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19 And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’

20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’

This guy was chasing after riches and had no one to share it with. He finally gets what he thinks is enough stuff to be content. But instead of living an easy life eating, drinking and being merry he dies with no one to leave all his riches to. Just as the psalm he dies without knowing whose it will be.

Riches are nice to have but when pursuing things becomes more important to us than God and people, we are only chasing phantoms. Things are then our idol and we will never find the contentment that comes from a relationship with God. Ask yourself how content you are. If you are not content you may feel compelled to keep rushing around doing things to gain more stuff. If you are content you will find peace even when you don't have all that the world says you need to chase after. That is what I want to chase after. Contentment is achievable and is what we should be chasing after.

it is 2:30 in the morning. I’ve been battling a painful RA flare throughout the day that increases into the evening and even more in the night. I’ve taken all the medicine I can, applied all the lotions that I can braced what I can and propped pillows under what I can.

These things will eventually help, but right now. I pray to the ultimate physician for both mind and body.

After a week of spiritual battles, amongst friends and family, questioning my path, wondering if I mislead myself.

I pressed into my Lord through it all, Today was a beautiful day as my children came to celebrate me. Once again, the enemy attacks in the moments of blessed family,…

God bless you and keep! I thank the Lord that you thought to turn to Him in your pain and to the blog. This is why it is here so you always have a place to go to look to His word. The reason it is a blog is so that you can share what is going on and what His word is saying to you, showing you and teaching you. Never apologize for sharing your heart. I love my dear friend and God loves you more than we can comprehend. As you rest in the Lord may He give you physical rest as well.
