1 KINGS 7:1-51
2 CHRONICLES 3:15-4:22
The Temple’s Furnishings
1 Kings 7:13 King Solomon sent to Tyre and brought Huram, 14 whose mother was a widow from the tribe of Naphtali and whose father was from Tyre and a skilled craftsman in bronze. Huram was filled with wisdom, with understanding and with knowledge to do all kinds of bronze work. He came to King Solomon and did all the work assigned to him.
Our house is our life that is built on the Rock. A firm foundation. Our body is our temple to the Lord. How do we furnish that temple? What we bring into our bodies matters. The Temple of the Lord was furnished with the best work of the finest craftsmen and was of great value. What we eat, what we drink, what we breath in and what activities we do and don't do are the furnishings of our temple and need to be the best that we can acquire for it. Father may this be what changes my heart and mind so that I might better care for this temporary body that you have given me. Jesus, you have sent your Holy Spirit to live in me and made my body part of you. The place where You dwell in Spirit. May that fact always remind me to seek the best of things to furnish Your temple and care for it as it should be. The place where You dwell Jesus deserve better than I have been giving it.
It makes me think of Daniel when he asked that he and his friends could eat fruits and vegetables instead of the king's food and they were the best and most fit and healthiest of all those called to the king's service. I don't think it was just because they ate fruits and vegetables. It was because they were obedient to do what God had ordained that they should eat and they were blessed. I bet that the food that was being offered to them was delicious and desirable, but their craving was to please God not to satisfy their taste. I am sure it was easier for them as they had not developed the taste for those foods as they had not eaten them but there had to be temptation to try it. Also, it would have been easier to eat the offered food than to confront the servant in charge of them and ask for something that went against what the king had ordered. I need to stop taking the fast and easy way and honor God in how I treat my body.
