PROVERBS 1:1-4:27
Proverbs 3:7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and shun evil.
8 This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.
So, I wrote a few days ago about how important it is to build our temple with the best things we can. I had talked to Dave about it and he agreed. Then in church yesterday Pastor Amy was talking about spiritual disciplines and growing up in our faith. In talking about doing everything we do as we are doing it for the Lord she specifically mentioned that when we eat and drink we should do it for the Lord. That of course caught my attention as confirmation. I have thought of that, added it to my prayer list and had it on my mind and made a few better decisions in what I do to care for my body. But over all I have done worse than I normally do. I have not shunned evil and have given into my own desires. I thought that recognizing the biblical principal of our bodies being the temple of God, the residing place of the Spirit of God, that it would make it easier for me to eat healthier and turn away from the temptations of unhealthy food and overindulgence in general, but instead I think it has gotten more difficult. I think I just wanted God to take away all those things and make me make better choices. How ridiculous that sounds now that I see what I had done. It would be easier to just give up and go back to a worldly way of thinking about food. But that would not be the right thing to do. The enemy will use the ways of this world to bring suffering to my body. However, I will not give into those lies. I will not allow my failures to discourage me I will trust in the Lord and rely on His word. I will not be wise in my own eyes and try to do this on my own. I will fear the Lord and shun evil. In doing so He will bring health to my body and nourishment to my bones.
