2Peter 1:5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.

Goodness without knowledge is empty. Knowledge without self-control is useless. Self-control without perseverance is worthless. Perseverance without godliness is futile. Godliness without mutual affection is not very godly. Mutual affection without love is a lie. When you start with love and mutual affection in increasing measure all the rest grow and you will be more productive and effective in your knowledge of the Lord Jesus and the hope we have in Him. Your love based mutual affection in increasing measure will lead you to godliness. Godliness in increasing measure will enable you to persevere in self-control. You will grow in knowledge and goodness that is beyond any measure you can achieve without Christ.
