ACTS 3:1-5:42
Acts 3:12 Peter saw his opportunity and addressed the crowd. “People of Israel,” he said, “what is so surprising about this? And why stare at us as though we had made this man walk by our own power or godliness?
As I read this, I thought about how I respond to opportunities to address people about God's power and greatness and to share the truth of the gospel. When something happens that make people especially unbelievers recognize the miraculous and they say wow that is amazing or unexplainable or what an amazing coincidence, but we can see God's hand in it. I have said things like God is good or I don't believe in coincidence. But that is a lame response to the opportunity. Peter's response is to give God the glory and then to go on a share the Gospel. To convict those who are listening of their sin and call them to repentance and assure them of the path to salvation.
Makes me think I could do more. I could respond better. Lord please help me to know when and how to do so.
Act 4:8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers and elders of our people, 9 are we being questioned today because we’ve done a good deed for a crippled man? Do you want to know how he was healed? 10 Let me clearly state to all of you and to all the people of Israel that he was healed by the powerful name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, the man you crucified but whom God raised from the dead.
I noticed that there were a number of times that it says that a person or people were filled with the Holy Spirit. The last verses I shared didn't say that Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit but this time it does. I think there had to be a difference either for Peter in his heart he knew that the words he spoke were from the Spirit or there was a difference in how he spoke. I know that I can tell when my words or prayers are from the Spirit. There is a change in my countenance, and I notice a change in how I am speaking. People had to have recognized the power and authority in Peter's words.
Acts 4:24 When they heard the report, all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer to God: “O Sovereign Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them—
I also love that all the believers lifted their voices together in prayer. Corporate heart felt Spirit lead prayer is so powerful.
Haven't shared a son in a while.
