EZEKIEL 7:1-9:11

HEBREWS 5:1-14

PSALM 105:1-15

PROVERBS 26:28

Hebrews 5:11 We have much to say about this, but it is hard to make it clear to you because you no longer try to understand. 12 In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food!

Hebrews 5:13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.

Immature Christians will struggle with understanding the deeper things of faith. Just as, if a baby is not fed enough or the right kind of milk they will be malnourished and not grow, so too will happen to a Christian. But for a baby to mature milk alone is not enough. They need to move to solid food first soft foods then to meat. A Christian who does not nourish their faith will not mature. The Hebrews that Paul was talking to had been in the faith for a long time but were not maturing. They were no longer trying to understand all that they were being taught. They never moved to solid food so they didn't understand the teachings on righteousness, and it made it easy for them to be drawn into the lies because they could not differentiate between good and evil. It can be difficult for some Christians to mature today. Our world we live in is not centered around God the way the Hebrews world was. No wonder so many Christians have difficulty distinguishing between good from evil. That is why discipleship is so important. When a person becomes a Christian, they need someone to care for them, teach them and feed them the basics or milk of the faith. Otherwise, they will think that believing in Jesus, going to church and being a good person is enough. They need to be guided through the study and understanding of the word of God, so that they can know the truth of God's word so well that the lies of evil are recognized immediately. As a disciple you need to respond by taking what is being taught to you and eat it. Feast on it! Let it nourish you and grow you. If you refuse to eat then you will be just as these Hebrews. No matter where you are in your faith there is room to grow. Find someone to disciple and allow yourself to be discipled so that you can eat the meat.
