EZEKIEL 14:12-16:41
HEBREWS 7:18-28
PSALM 106:1-12
PROVERBS 27:4-6
Ezekiel 14:12 The word of the Lord came to me: 13 “Son of man, if a country sins against me by being unfaithful and I stretch out my hand against it to cut off its food supply and send famine upon it and kill its people and their animals, 14 even if these three men—Noah, Daniel and Job—were in it, they could save only themselves by their righteousness, declares the Sovereign Lord.
Ezekiel 14:16 as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if these three men were in it, they could not save their own sons or daughters. They alone would be saved, but the land would be desolate.
Ezekiel 14:18 as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if these three men were in it, they could not save their own sons or daughters. They alone would be saved.
Ezekiel 14:20 as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, even if Noah, Daniel and Job were in it, they could save neither son nor daughter. They would save only themselves by their righteousness.
I read this on election day 2024. I know there are many people concerned about the state of our country and worried to the point of anxiety over this election. I am concerned about the state of our nation but I am not worried about the election because the truth is that God has placed every leader in place and will use all things for His purpose. That means no matter who is elected God is still in control. All that we can do is focus on Him. Live for Him. Do our best to live a Christ-like life. If we are washed in the blood of the Lamb then we too are saved. Not by our own righteousness but by His. And because we are saved we have the ability to walk in His righteousness. So even if our nation sins against the Lord if we are faithful and striving to walk according to His word He will protect us from the destruction that will come as a result of the sinful disobedience of a nation. We cannot save the nation from the consequences of its wickedness but we can be different and live to love and serve God.
Ezekiel 15:15 “‘But you trusted in your beauty and used your fame to become a prostitute. You lavished your favors on anyone who passed by and your beauty became his. 16 You took some of your garments to make gaudy high places, where you carried on your prostitution. You went to him, and he possessed your beauty. 17 You also took the fine jewelry I gave you, the jewelry made of my gold and silver, and you made for yourself male idols and engaged in prostitution with them. 18 And you took your embroidered clothes to put on them, and you offered my oil and incense before them. 19 Also the food I provided for you—the flour, olive oil and honey I gave you to eat—you offered as fragrant incense before them. That is what happened, declares the Sovereign Lord.
20 “‘And you took your sons and daughters whom you bore to me and sacrificed them as food to the idols. Was your prostitution not enough? 21 You slaughtered my children and sacrificed them to the idols. 22 In all your detestable practices and your prostitution you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, kicking about in your blood.
How has our nation done these things? We have a beautiful country that is the land of the free and home of the brave. We live a lifestyle and have things that many in the world long for. Our country that was founded on Christian values has sold itself out to the whims of the worldly culture. God has provided all that is needed and more to this nation. Instead of using all those blessing to honor and serve God our nation promotes agendas that go against God's word. Our nation worships all kinds of wickedness. Our children are being sacrificed to and education system that teaches them to hate God and to trust in themselves and their own wants and desires. Our nation has forgotten the foundation it was founded on. Freedom. Freedom OF religion which means that we are free to worship without the condemnation and control of our government. Our nation has forgotten God and become a nation that wants to have freedom FROM religion.
Psalm 106:3 Blessed are those who act justly,
who always do what is right.
4 Remember me, Lord, when you show favor to your people,
come to my aid when you save them,
5 that I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones,
that I may share in the joy of your nation
and join your inheritance in giving praise.
As Christians in a fallen nation we need to live a righteous life which can only be done when Jesus is in control of our life.
Psalm 106:6 We have sinned, even as our ancestors did;
we have done wrong and acted wickedly.
We cannot live a perfect life but if our heart is for God then it will be credited to us as righteousness.
Psalm 106:7 When our ancestors were in Egypt,
they gave no thought to your miracles;
they did not remember your many kindnesses,
and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea.
8 Yet he saved them for his name’s sake,
to make his mighty power known.
9 He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up;
he led them through the depths as through a desert.
10 He saved them from the hand of the foe;
from the hand of the enemy he redeemed them.
Our nation's leaders may not remember all the God has done for us but we can. In doing so one Christian at a time we will be better able to navigate this through this broken world. Remember that we are One Nation Under God and even if our neighbor isn't living in that knowledge we can.
