LAMENTATIONS 4:1-5:22
HEBREWS 2:1-18
PSALM 103:1-22
PROVERBS 26:23
Hebrews 2:11 Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.
Thinking about the humanness of Jesus. As a human Jesus is of the same family as we are. We are Jesus' brothers and sisters and the best part is that He is not ashamed of us. He knows what it's like to be human and He understands as only He can. Because He is also God, He knows us and our hearts and our experiences and understands our struggles.
Hebrews 2:14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.
As a human He knows the hold that sin and the devil have over our lives and He came so that he could set us free from it. He became the perfect sacrificial lamb taking our sin on Himself that His death was able to save us from the power of death and sin.
Hebrews 2:17 For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted. He experienced every temptation that have but did not sin.
As a human He became the high priest who would make atonement for our sins. He was tempted in every way that we are but He did not sin. As high priest He offered Himself the perfect sacrificial lamb to atone for our sins. He told the disciples over and over again what was going to happen to Him and they never understood it. I was watching the chosen season 4 and it showed Jesus frustration with the disciples lack of understanding. He is talking to his mother and she says to him "They are only Human." and He looks at her with a pained look, indicates Himself and says, "Also human". At first I thought that it was minimizing His deity but after numerous other ways His humanity has been laid before me this week, I think it was more to show how He experienced all the feelings that we do but still did not sin. Emotions are not wrong what we do in response to them is the sin.
Praise the Lord
Psalm 103:1 Praise the Lord, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
2 Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits—
3 who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
4 who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
5 who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
