MARK 5:1-20

MATTHEW 8:28-34

LUKE 8:26-39

MARK 5:21-43

MATTHEW 9:18-26

LUKE 8:40-56

Mark 5:18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon-possessed begged to go with him. 19 Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.” 20 So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.

Today we read of another time that demons know who Jesus is. They call Him Son of the Most High God. But we also see how faith in Jesus changes a person. This man who was demon possessed had a personal experience with Jesus. That experience changed him and made him want to go with him. It drove him toward Jesus and became more important that going home to his family and showing them that he was well. There was a hunger for Jesus. Now Jesus told him no he couldn't go with Him but to and tell his own people how much the Lord has done for him. When we experience Jesus and it changes our heart it will change what we want and what we are willing to do for God. It may not happen all at once because let's face it having a legion of demons removed from your body and restoring you is a pretty big experience. It reminds me of the time Jesus was eating at a Pharisee's house and the woman came and washed his feet with her tears and anointed him with perfume. When questioned Jesus said in Luke 7:41-43...

“Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed

him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.  Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?”

Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.”

“You have judged correctly,” Jesus said.

So maybe if you grew up in the church and Jesus had always been part of your life your change would be more gradual as you begin to experience him in different ways and all different level in between.
