1 Thessalonians 2:4-5 NIV

[4] On the contrary, we speak as those approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel. We are not trying to please people but God, who tests our hearts. [5] You know we never used flattery, nor did we put on a mask to cover up greed—God is our witness.

I failed in the area of pleasing God yesterday. There was a lady that I was taking to who made a comment to me that she thought it was best for a young transgender who does not have faith to spend time with a transgender person that she knows because she has a "strong faith". I had the thought that it is better for anyone who is transgender to be around people who know and will speak the truth of the word of God in love to them and show them love. As well as the question as to what does the person have "strong faith" in. But I didn't say anything because I feel that this person is lacking some biblical understanding because she also recently challenged my concern for the Mormon boys who were visiting me. She seems to believe that being strong in some spiritual faith is all that you need. I failed God because as a follower of Christ and someone who teaches others, I feel I fall into the category of one trusted with the gospel. I don't think I was trying to please her, but I was silent because it did not feel like the right time to challenge her statement. I am glad that I was able to remain silent and not say anything that could have been taken as agreement or flattery. I know that God will use all things for good, but I knew I was being faced with a belief that does not line up with scripture and I had a physical discomfort in the face of it but said nothing.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 NIV

[13] And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe.

Tonight I shared my testimony with a couple who I had recently met. Which realling makes this verse catch my attention. My surrender to Christ after many years of believing in Jesus all came down to God presenting His word to me and asking me if I would receive it as it actually is, the word of God, not as human words. When I acknowledged to Him that I receive it as His word that is when He began his work in me and my journey of faith began. That journey has taken me through 30 + years of study. Including hundreds of bible study, daily bible reading that has taken me through the bible so many times, tons of conferences and retreats, hundreds of hours of sermons and podcast that are all part of what it has taken for me to learn God's word so well that when I hear something that is not biblical, I just know it. I pray that when I recognize the lie that you would open my mouth when it needs to be open and give me the words that I need to say.
