LUKE 1:39-80
MATTHEW 1:18-25
LUKE 2:1-40
Unto us a child is born. He is Christ the Lord. But He was also one of us.
Luke 2:12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
He was born in a common home not even in a guest room but a common area where animals stayed. And the fact that He was wrapped in cloths showed was how the shepherds and common everyday people wrapped their babies.
Luke 2:22 When the time came for the purification rites required by the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord 23 (as it is written in the Law of the Lord, “Every firstborn male is to be consecrated to the Lord”), 24 and to offer a sacrifice in keeping with what is said in the Law of the Lord: “a pair of doves or two young pigeons.”
He was not born into a wealthy home and we know this because the sacrifice was to be a lamb unless they could not afford it then they could bring 2 doves or 2 young pigeons.
Luke 2:39 When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth. 40 And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him.
He lived in a common home and obeyed all the laws, but He was no common child. He was "filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on him." That was noticeable.
And because of Him all who put their faith in Him are equal. Next week's scripture for the Sunday sermon is James 2:1-13. In it we learn that as brothers and sisters in Christ we are all equal. Jesus breaks down the walls of division between rich and poor, clean and dirty, educated and uneducated. And just as Jesus came to earth as a humble baby and made Himself like one of us we need to humble ourselves and look at each other equally with no favoritism or discrimination.
