Ephesians 5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord.
It doesn't say you were once in darkness, but you were darkness. Without Christ we are darkness which represents evil. Darkness is the absence of light. But with Christ we are light. Not just in His light but we become light. Light has power over darkness. When you bring a light into a dark room it is changed. It is no longer dark. In darkness you can't see but even the smallest amount of light will let you see. But there is no way to bring darkness to a room filled with light without turning the light off. We live in a world full of darkness and evil. As Christians we are light and as we walk through the world with goodness righteousness and truth our light should push away the darkness and be visible to anyone walking in that darkness. And they can also "find out what pleases the Lord".
Ephesians 5:11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
If someone has lived in darkness all their life they wouldn't know what light is until they see it. In the same way the lost don't know they are lost until it is revealed to them. So Live light!

Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Although I do my devotions, pray, listen to christian music, sing etc. I am thankful for this reminder to “sing from the heart”. Especially in times like these last free days when Im not feeling well and feel less like putting my heart into anything. But I should try to give any energy I can muster to praising God.
