September 27, 2025 -Fast on Food Feast on the Word

Matthew 4:4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Jesus is quoting Deuteronomy and that verse was the verse that God used to prompt me to do my first fast. I never realized that it is the verse that Jesus used to defeat the lies of the enemy after spending 40 days fasting. I am grateful that God has never called me to a 40 day fast. I can get hangry but it is true that when fasting you should be dining on the word of God and spending time in prayer. When you do that, the hunger loses its power just as the enemy loses his power in the face of God's truth. I have done up to a 3 day fast but nothing more. It is not a regular practice, but I am willing to respond whenever God calls me to do so. I would encourage you to ask God if and when He would call you to fast for something.
