DANIEL 7:1-8:27

DANIEL 5:1-31

Daniel 8:26 “The vision of the evenings and mornings that has been given you is true, but seal up the vision, for it concerns the distant future.”

27 I, Daniel, was worn out. I lay exhausted for several days. Then I got up and went about the king’s business. I was appalled by the vision; it was beyond understanding.

Daniel the man who God had given the ability to understand visions and dreams could not understand the vision of the end times. Which means as I have often written we are not supposed to be able to understand or predict its time either. But we know that as everything that God says will happen, will happen. When Gabriel tells him that it concerns the distant future that is an uncomprehensible amount of time. I am curious what the original word means for distant future. Like the word translated as soon in the New Testament about Jesus coming means sudden and unexpectedly not an amount of time. It was so intense and overwhelming that it wore Daniel out. Being burdened with a difficult truth from God and being true to what He calls us to will be exhausting at times. And we might have to rest but we must then get up and go about our King's business.

Daniel 5:11 There is a man in your kingdom who has the spirit of the holy gods in him. In the time of your father he was found to have insight and intelligence and wisdom like that of the gods. Your father, King Nebuchadnezzar, appointed him chief of the magicians, enchanters, astrologers and diviners. 12 He did this because Daniel, whom the king called Belteshazzar, was found to have a keen mind and knowledge and understanding, and also the ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles and solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.”

Daniel was known as a man who had great insight, intelligence and wisdom. Because God gave him that keen mind and ability to interpret dreams, explain riddles and solve problems. When God said something He always did it and that reliability was also credited to Daniel.

Daniel 5:30 That very night Belshazzar, king of the Babylonians, was slain, 31 and Darius the Mede took over the kingdom, at the age of sixty-two.

So just as Belshazzar was slain as God said he would be in the same night in which He spoke, we know that the end times will come and that the distant future becomes less distant with each passing day.

Come Lord Jesus.
