PHILEMON 1:1-25
PHILIPPIANS 1:1-2:11
Philippians 1:21 For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better. 22 But if I live, I can do more fruitful work for Christ. So I really don’t know which is better. 23 I’m torn between two desires: I long to go and be with Christ, which would be far better for me. 24 But for your sakes, it is better that I continue to live.
People who really know me know that I have been ready to meet Jesus face to face for over 20 years. So, I get Paul's feeling here. I really like this translation because it reminds me that living for Christ is the closest I can get to Jesus here on this earth. As I live for Christ every time I tell someone about Jesus or live in a way that points people toward Him I am doing all I can for the kingdom. My desire to be with Christ is a selfish desire but my desire to live for Christ is a sacrificial love for those who will come to know Christ better. I am torn between the two desires as well. In my personal desire to be done with this world and be with Christ I must recognize that even though it might be best for me it does not mean it will be best for the Kingdom. But a willingness to be here with a desire to live for Christ and serve Him fully I know He can and will use my life for His Kingdoms purpose.
So if I must live to be 100 years old may it be only because He has work for me to do and that I am doing it as He would lead.
