REVELATION 3:1-6:17

Revelation 3:15 “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other!

You would think that a church would be a group of believers. But I think this is a group of people who think they are believers. Their lukewarm spirituality indicates that they are not. They are head believers but they are not heart believers. Think about all the epistles that we have recently read that talks about how a faith in Jesus changes you. These people had money and all they could ask for. They thought they were all that. They didn't see themselves as the sinners they were. They were indifferent to the lost and are blind to the truth of their eternal state. When you are a heart believer you can't help but see the depth of your own sin which humbles you. You see your financial blessings as opportunity to care for other. You have eternity on your heart and mind not just for yourself but for everyone you meet. It would be better to identify as an unbeliever than to be a head believer. Because as a head believer you don't realize that you are still lost. It would be harder for that person to become a heart believer because they think they are already saved. These people are already so full of themselves they can't see their need for more Jesus.

Revelation 3:20 “Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.

This verse is usually used as a general call to any unbeliever to demonstrate that Jesus is knocking on the door of an unbeliever's heart asking to be let in. I have heard people use it to say He won't knock down the door He will just knock and wait. It is up to you to open the door. When I read it today, I was thinking about this church as being a church of lazy believers instead of unbelievers. So, when I read it, I thought there had to be something wrong with how the verse was being used. That is what drove me to go back and take a closer look at the previous verses. Those are appropriate uses of this scripture in preaching, but it means so much more to me now that I have a better understanding of the Laodicean church. Jesus is specifically referencing knocking on their heart which would stress the fact that it is not simply a decision to believe that is required. It is an opening of your heart. A reception of Jesus into yourself. Into the part of you that influences everything that you are. He is very direct and very honest with these kinds of people to wake them up and make them realize their true spiritual situation. They need Him to knock LOUD to be heard and that is what He is doing. Then He tells them. But I am here. If you open yourself up to me and invite me in, I will not only come into your life, but I will be with you as intimately as a friend.

If there is no change in your life then you're lukewarm and Jesus is knocking. You may had seen Him coming and invited Him to the porch. Maybe even talk to Him through the window of your mind but the door to your heart has not been opened. When will you open it and invite Him into all of your life.

A must listen to after this reading today's chapters is Grace to You.

After reading I heard this radio broadcast and when John MacArthur mentions the "Sevenfold Spirit" it caught my attention because yesterday when I read that in chapter 1 was wondering what that meant. I missed the beginning, so I didn't know the sermon title or that it was all about Revelation. He explained it very well which kept me listening. How appropriate to listen to this when we are starting into Revelation at Christmas time. I know that you will find great value in listening to it at this time. I have included the radio broadcast version and the full video sermon which has the first half of the sermon as well as the one from today. I recommend listening to the full sermon.

Radio Broadcast part2

We are almost done with the Chronological bible in a year reading plan. For the new year I found the plan below on the You Bible app. Being someone who loves music I think this is going to be great. If you don't care for the music part just do the reading as you normally would and skip the devotional music. I will continue to post the reading for the day at the top of the page as well.

Join me in reading Bible in a Year Through Song beginning January 1, 2026.
