REVELATION 11:1-14:20

Revelation 11:1 Then I was given a measuring stick, and I was told, “Go and measure the Temple of God and the altar, and count the number of worshipers. But do not measure the outer courtyard, for it has been turned over to the nations. They will trample the holy city for 42 months. And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will be clothed in burlap and will prophesy during those 1,260 days.”

Revelation 12:5 She gave birth to a son who was to rule all nations with an iron rod. And her child was snatched away from the dragon and was caught up to God and to his throne. And the woman fled into the wilderness, where God had prepared a place to care for her for 1,260 days.

The number of 1,260 days being repeated here caught my attention. I have recognized many other numerical references and cross-references but this one I did not recognize. It made me do a little bit of research and math. 1,260 days is 42 thirty-day months. Which means that the references to 42 months is the same time period. Which I would have already known had I properly read 11:1 "the nations" will "trample the holy city for 42 months and then in 3 "during those 1,260 days". Lol.

I probably wouldn't have picked up the 42-month reference below had I not gone through the 1,260 days.

Revelation 13:5 Then the beast was allowed to speak great blasphemies against God. And he was given authority to do whatever he wanted for forty-two months.

I really don't know the significance of these numbers all being the same or why sometimes 42 months is used and sometimes 1.260 days is used but when I read it was what caught my attention. It also equals 3 1/2 years which is half of the perfect number 7.

It could be that it just symbolized a limited period of time of tribulation or divine testing for God's people. And in all honesty, I don't feel any need to look any further into it. Even though I find prophecy interesting and would be happy to be part of a study of any prophetic book to learn more. I don't think that it is intended for us to be able to understand it. I know what I think I need to know.

  • Things will be difficult and the church must be ready.

Revelation 13:10 Anyone who is destined for prison

    will be taken to prison.

Anyone destined to die by the sword

     will die by the sword.

This means that God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently and remain faithful.

Revelation 14:12 This means that God’s holy people must endure persecution patiently, obeying his commands and maintaining their faith in Jesus.

  • Jesus will return and put an end to it all.

Revelation 14:14 Then I saw a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was someone like the Son of Man. He had a gold crown on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand.

That is all I need to know right now. When I need more I also know He will give it me.

We are almost done with the Chronological bible in a year reading plan. For the new year I found the plan below on the You Bible app. Being someone who loves music I think this is going to be great. If you don't care for the music part just do the reading as you normally would and skip the devotional music. I will continue to post the reading for the day at the top of the page as well.

Join me in reading Bible in a Year Through Song beginning January 1, 2026.
