EPHESIANS 5:15-6:24
COLOSSIANS 1:1-23
Ephesians 5:22 For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. 23 For a husband is :
the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church. 24 As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything.
"That was a week too late." says Dave when I told him this was my bible reading for today. I agree. But God knew I needed to come to this place on my own. I told Dave that God used it to teach me something so I would remember it. He said that I would forget eventually. I had to agree that I probably would, but that God will use this in the future to remind me. The other thing that He taught me through all this is that it is not my place to teach Dave the husbands roll which is found after these verses. Just as He can teach me, He can teach Dave as well. It is never too late because God works it all out in His timing. Also, He will faithfully work things out in our marriage as long as we seek Him.
Colossians 1:9 So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.
I can pray for Dave and myself in our marriage. This is very much the way I pray for just about everyone on my prayer list. But in my marriage, this is the prayer I have so that when I do forget this experience and what God has taught me, I will remember to seek His knowledge, wisdom and understanding. Doing so will make me much quicker to turn around my selfish thought words and actions to His will and humbly submit to my Husband as to Christ.
Colossians 1:11 We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy,
Also, a prayer that can be prayed for everyone on your prayer list. But again, in context of my marriage, only through His glorious power can we have the strength, endurance and patience to remain joyfully married. The example and expectation in the world today is the complete opposite of God's plan for marriage. The world says there is no need to endure if your spouse is no longer making you happy just give up. I am so grateful that even before we started living for Christ, we had made the decisions no to give up when things were BAD. He had such a better plan for my life than I could have imagined. It is never too late to experience the Joy of Christ in your life married or single.
Next week's bible verses for church are Zephaniah 3:14-20 and Luke 2:8-11. Sermon title Light of Joy. May you be filled with joy. The Light of Joy. Jesus is the light of joy. He is also our strength and in Him we have His glorious power and patience to endure.
