Psalms 17:3-5 NIV

[3] Though you probe my heart, though you examine me at night and test me, you will find that I have planned no evil; my mouth has not transgressed. [4] Though people tried to bribe me, I have kept myself from the ways of the violent through what your lips have commanded. [5] My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not stumbled.

I read this and I am thinking I can't say these things about myself over my lifetime. But neither can anyone else. Not even David. But then the thought that maybe he is talking about that day. That night. Or even the situation that he is currently in. When we are going through difficult times it should drive us closer to God. When we are closer to God and thinking about Him more it is easier to not sin. Especially when we are recognizing the ungodly sinful things going on around us. It can help us recognize the ungodly sinful things inside of us. May our struggles and persecution make us more aware of the greatness and glory of God. May that drive us to be so focused on Jesus and His example that we too can pray to Him for help in our situation without the burden of our sin weighing heavy on our hearts. May we hold to His paths and may our feet not stumble. But even if we are not in a difficult situation the answer to victory over sin is the same. Move closer to God and focus on His greatness and the example of Jesus.
