Genesis 47:24
'24But when the crop comes in, give a fifth of it to Pharaoh. The other four-fifths you may keep as seed for the fields and as food for yourselves and your households and your children.” '
I love that Pharaoh only gets 5%. Pharaoh is considered a god, but he doesn't get 10%. This is before Moses, the 10 commandments and the law that included giving a tithe back to the Lord which is even better. Joseph could have taken more from the people for Pharaoh, but he was fair. He did what he had to do to acknowledge that everything and everyone was owned by Pharaoh, but he only had them give 5%. He did not take more from the people. I see this an act of kindness to them. He couldn't be responsible in his job and not make them pay something for the grain but he did not take advantage of their struggle. It's like God guided Joseph and was saying that Pharaoh is not really a god. He is just the ruler who owns everything.
Genesis 47:25
'25“You have saved our lives,” they said. “May we find favor in the eyes of our lord; we will be in bondage to Pharaoh.” '
Pharaoh held the people in bondage to him by taking control of everything they had but he is no god. We have been saved by the one true God. We have found favor in His eyes because when He looks at us, He sees Jesus. We are now in bondage to Him but we must give up control of everything we have and when we do He does not take things away from us He blesses us with more. That is the work of the One True God.
