Exodus 4:13-15 NIV

[13] But Moses said, “Pardon your servant, Lord. Please send someone else.” [14] Then the Lord’s anger burned against Moses and he said, “What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well. He is already on his way to meet you, and he will be glad to see you. [15] You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do.

Moses had demonstrated his faith in God just before this. Everything that God told him to do he did without hesitation, even grab a snake by the tail. The same snake he ran from. Which by the way if you are tying not to get bit the tail is a terrible place to grab it. Only thing worse is by the head. But when God tells him to do something that requires something of him, something that triggers his insecurity his faith waivers. He trusts God to protect him from the snake but not to give him the ability to do something that he feels incapable of doing. Even when God had said....

Exodus 4:11-12 '11... “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute? Who gives them sight or makes them blind? Is it not I, the Lord?  12Now go; I will help you speak and will teach you what to say.” '

Isn't it hard to give up our insecurities and opinions and trust God? Some believe Moses may have had a stutter. Whatever it was he probably grew up feeling stupid and clunky when he would speak. Think about it he knew he was a Hebrew and so did all the Egyptians, so they were probably pretty hard on him. He must have known who his family was also. He lived with them until he was weaned which would have been somewhere between ages 2 and 4. So his siblings including Aaron would have known who he was. But the fact that God says "What about your brother...he will be glad to see you" means that he knew who Aaron was as well. That means all the Hebrews probable knew also and they probably didn't treat him well either. That's evident by the reaction to him when he killed the Egyptian for the sake of the Hebrew. After living a life criticized and rejected being called slow, stupid, and made fun of for speaking poorly by everyone around him there were some deep emotional scars. It's hard to trust God with our scars, hurts and insecurities. The world around us is so much louder and more persistent when we are focusing on them. When they are speaking about things that we already are insecure or uncomfortable about. Every time we listen to those hurtful comments and repeat them to ourselves without looking at what God has to say we are deepening our scars and making it even harder to trust God with that thing. What do we do about it?

This year's women's conference is This is Us...Amplifying Jesus and it is about turning down the world and turning up Jesus. That is the secret to overcoming our hurt, pain and insecurities and having the courage, strength and boldness to do what God is calling us to do regardless of what we think we are capable of. As a child when your peers and maybe even family put you down for something it's difficult to look to God and see who he says we are. But as we grown in our relationship with Jesus, we can learn how to shut out those lies and replace them with who God is, what He has to say about us and what He has done for us. His response to Moses is who made you? Who made your mouth and gave you your speech? We need to remember that we have been made by God in His image according to His will. Jesus came, suffered and died for us would He do that if He didn't consider us to be worthy. He has a plan and a purpose and even our worldly weaknesses are able to be used for His glory. When He was here on this earth He called the weak and insignificant people in the worlds eyes to do miraculous things and start His church.

What insecurity is holding you back from serving God in the way He is calling you? What lies of the world are you believing? Turn down the world and Amplify Jesus in your life and trust God. Step up and step out in obedience.
