Psalms 32:3-5 NIV
[3] When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long. [4] For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. [5] Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord.” And you forgave the guilt of my sin.
Confession. Sin kept silent is the enemies win. It will eat us up. We will suffer the consequences of that sin and the consequences of the silence. In confession there is forgiveness. In forgiveness there is freedom.
Romans 13:9-10 NIV
[9] The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not covet,” and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” [10] Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
Romans 13:12-14 NIV
[12] The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. [13] Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. [14] Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.
Last night at The Table we talked about loving others. Others in the body of Christ and those who are lost. The lost will live in darkness so we cannot expect them to live in Christ but we still need to be able to show love without agreeing that their sin is not sin. And we need to pray for their salvation. Salvation is the answer to sin. Salvation is light. We all sin and fall short of the glory of God. If you ever wonder if what you are doing is sin, ask yourself is this loving. If the answer is no, then it is sin. We must put on the armor of God. The armor of light. Light overcomes darkness. Our confession shines light on the evil and sin in our lives so that we can see it. Confession is us agreeing with God that what we do is wrong and that it is in opposition to what Jesus would do. But it also allows us to become more aware of what it will look like to be clothed with Jesus. We need to be thinking about what it looks like to walk with Jesus instead of thinking about our own desires.
1 Chronicles 21:8 NIV
[8] Then David said to God, “I have sinned greatly by doing this. Now, I beg you, take away the guilt of your servant. I have done a very foolish thing.”
Sin and confession in every chapter of the reading today. Confession on all fronts.
