“But only the high priest entered the inner room, and that only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance. The Holy Spirit was showing by this that the way into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still functioning. This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper. They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings—external regulations applying until the time of the new order. But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. ”

Hebrews 9:7-12 NIV

The gifts of the sacrifice were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper. They were temporary, "external regulations applying until the time of the new order." If you read the full reading, then you saw that there were regulations for worship. This begins a tying together of all the previous chapters. It shows how the regulations and actions of the earthly high priest were flawed. Jesus as High Priest who is God Himself can come before the Father freely at any time.

The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.”

Hebrews 9:13-15 NIV

His blood is not the imperfect blood of an animal and therefore is the perfect, eternal sacrifice. He is now the "mediator of a new covenant". He is the one that presents us to the Father because it is through him that we have received the "promised eternal inheritance."

I think that we focus our thoughts about eternity from the perspective of being Christian, but we need to remember that every human has an eternal inheritance. We inherit the promise of the one we belong to. If you have not given your life to Christ and been adopted into His family, then you inherit that which the king of this world offers for eternity. Eternity in hell with the father of lies. Jesus says:

JOHN 8"44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don’t you believe me? 47 Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

“This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon:

Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” ”

Jeremiah 29:4, 6-7 NIV

As believers we are living in a foreign land that is trying to strip us of our faith and our hope. Just as the Babylonians were trying to do to the Israelites. God told them to live their lives. Be prosperous and do the best they can because one day they will be set free. As Christians we are already set free spiritually as it says in John 8:36. So, we should live our lives the best we can and that means live it like Christ. Which means that we have a concern for the eternal destiny of the lost so not only should we marry, have children, seek peace and prosperity for all but we need to speak truth. Jesus is the way the truth and the life, and the truth will set them free. But just as when Jesus spoke truth it was not always received and He was persecuted for it. Therefore, we can expect the same. We are not called to make people believe in Jesus. We can't. But if we love as Jesus loved then we should be compelled to share the truth of Jesus and trust in Him to help us to persevere through the persecution and convict those who are called to believe in the Truth. So, "that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—"
